(Director of the International Center for Advanced Internet Research (iCAIR))“Creating the Future of Communications Through International Collaboration"
(Vortrag des
"Fraunhofer IESE" in Kooperation mit dem Fachbereich Informatik)
Multiple macros trends in information technology are being Driven by the creation
of higher levels of abstraction and by the Virtualization of resources at all levels. Infrastructure
is evolving from static implementations and configurations to highly dynamic, programmable
distributed environments, for example, as expressed in architecture such as Infrastructure-as-a-
Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and related developments.
These trends are revolutionizing communication services, architecture, and foundation technology,
through developments in innovative architectural models, such as Software Defined Networking
(SDN) and Software Defined Network Exchanges (SDXs). These macro trends provide multiple major
opportunities for international research collaborations that can advance the state-of-the-art in
many key areas of 21st century communications, such as providing:
(a) many more options for dynamic provisioning, including real time provisioning
(b) faster implementations of new and enhanced services,
(c) enabling applications, Edge processes and even individuals to directly control core resources,
(d) highly granulated views into individual network traffic flows
(e) enhanced Network service and infrastructure management through direct control over those flows
(f) substantially improved options for creating customizable network Services and infrastructure
(g) implementing real time analytics, and
(h) enhancing service, infrastructure, and data security.
