"Query Evaluation over Textual Data and Graph Data"

Query evaluation is a central problem in data management and it also lies at the heart of database theory. The classical setting considers (fragments of) first order logic as queries that are to be evaluated over relational data (i.e. relational databases). However, non-relational data sources (also called semi-structured data) like textual data or data graphs (including trees) are well-motivated nowadays and query evaluation problems for such data and various respective query languages are investigated.
In this talk, I will give a brief overview of my recent research on query evaluation problems over textual data (in the framework of so-called document spanners) and graph data. I also present some recent advances with respect to query evaluation over compressed data.
