Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science has reformed the program structures in computer science: from winter semester 2018/19, updated study plans and examination regulations will apply to newly enrolled students. The new curricula offer significantly more flexibility and improved compulsory sections help to improve the individual study progress.

Due to the greater flexibility in the new computer science program, students can strive for a similar profile as in the previous program “Computer Science in Applications”. As a consequence, the Bachelor and Master program "Computer Science in Applications" will be closed for new enrolments from winter semester 2018/19 (last enrolments were possible in summer semester 2018).

The Bachelor degree in computer science as a three-year university degree comprises

  • Scientific Foundations of Computer Science,
  • Fundamentals of complex IT systems
  • Important competences of software development

Some courses towards the end of the bachelor program are offered in English.

The research-oriented Master's program 'Computer Science' requires a Bachelor degree which provides the necessary scientific fundamentals. Students can choose a specific field of computer science as their Specialisation.

Enrolments are possible during the summer and winter semesters.

Examination plan for the section 'Supplement' in the Bachelor of Computer Science

Due to §5 of the Bachelor Examination Regulations, an approved examination plan must be submitted to the Department of Examination Affairs by 16.5. or 16.11. prior to the registration of modules in the supplementary area. Please make an appointment with the student advisor in this regard and use this template.

Template for the Examination Plan

The examination plan is a formal document that records your exam history. In particular, before you can register for an exam, the module has to be added to the examination plan and it has to be approved by the examination office (via email). If you add any modules to the supplement part, then your mentor needs to approve beforehand. In this case, email your examination plan to your mentor, who returns the approved examination plan to the examination office via email, clearly declaring his approval, putting you on CC. Please submit your examination plan as soon as possible after the term has started. Also, please avoid frequent changes.

The student prepares the individual study plan and examination plan according to examination regulations, general study plan, and implementing rules specified in this document. Prepared plans are to be presented to mentors, for guidance and acceptance. In case of doubt, the Master examination board is to be involved.
