In addition to their studies in the department or in the affiliated institutes students can work as assistants (Hiwi). There are several assistant jobs in the department for supervisors of work groups for lectures and for assistants for research projects (mostly programming jobs).
Taking on such a job has financial advantages and gives students the opportunity to gain a wide variety of key qualifications. The employment contract can also be of advantage for future job applications.
Students are advised not to take on an assistant job at the beginning of their degree because it is time consuming and requires experience. The degree course itself should always be top priority. Students should only consider taking on an assistant job after they have successfully completed the majority of the compulsory part of their course.
Supervisors of work groups should apply for an assistant contract in the dean’s office.
